December is here! We have had a busy couple of weeks decorating our classroom for the holiday season. Our Salvation Army Angels gift giving program was a wonderful success! We filled the wishes of every child our class was given. This gentle reminder of how much we have to be thankful for and the true joy of giving has awarded us the opportunity to share this with the our children. We will continue this conversation in our classroom and will talk about the wonderful blessings of our own lives.
We are working on the letters H, K, L, V and W. Every child has had a chance to take the sound box home, so we are starting a fresh list. We are working on sound/symbol correspondence and the sound box has been a wonderful tool. In literacy small groups we have been practicing upper and lowercase letter matching, beginning sounds matched with letter families, letter recognition, and sound/symbol correspondence. In our mathematics small groups we've explored measuring classroom items with stacking cubes, number sense, counting, and comparing more and less than. We also wrote numbers 1-10 in sand trays. The children are also continuing practice of letter writing with our Wet, Dry, Try chalkboards.
As you all know, school was cancelled half way through the day on Thursday, all day Friday, as well as the cancellation of our Holiday Performance on Saturday. Mrs. Bozzo has given the all clear to return to school on Monday. We are expecting rain much of this upcoming week, however this storm isn't expected to be nearly as intense as the last one. We look forward to the upcoming fun filled days with your children!
